In an effort to avoid getting bit a few weeks ago, I put a cup of cold milked down morning coffee in the way of Arthur’s beak…. And accidentally created an obsessed addict

challenge for Misha (now I have this for all 3): Misha came into my life last year like a pink 102 decibel tornado. I talked to his previous owner and got a call from a stranger who is now a good friend within hours of each other. My new friend’s son was also named Misha, and he committed suicide the same year that Misha bird was born (2009). Misha was surrendered within days of the anniversary of her sons suicide. I was in tears the whole afternoon because Misha bird’s previous owner really loved him, and Misha-persons mom was such a fucking amazing survivor. Ok so I’m crying again now remembering this. A Moluccan cockatoo had always been my impractical dream bird. I did Misha’s in take for the rescue and was his first and only foster. Obviously, I’ve adopted him permanently 💗. For the first four months I vacillated between pure joy and wondering wtf I was doing adopting an adolescent male Moluccan cockatoo?! In the past year I’ve harness trained Misha and we’ve built trust together. He is so smart and present that it’s a little intimidating, not to mention the potential power of his beak! He’s only bit me hard once, at the beginning. I hope to socialize him more and teach him tricks like I have with Boo. It may have taken me about three months of fostering to decide to commit, but that first day after his previous owners left, he shagged my hand and clearly let me know that he’d chosen me! I had only previously held a large bird no more than five times The local and online bird communities helped me so much during my first few months with him, and I’m deeply grateful for that 💗💗💗💗. Nominated by @theavianjunkie
